Judgement of Paris. When Paris, Prince of Priam was presented with an apple by Zeus, that was carved with the words "for the fairest", the 3 Goddesses, Artemis, Hera and Aphrodite all raised to receive the apple.
The three of them wanted to be known as the fairest among the Gods, so they resorted to bribery. Artemis, Goddess of War, bribed Paris with wisdom in war, Hera, Goddess of Matrimony, bribed Paris with the Crown to Asia, and Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, bribed him with the love of the most beautiful woman on earth, who at that moment was Helen, Queen of Sparta.
In the end, Paris chose lust over wisdom and power. After the lost of Helen, Agememnon, King of Sparta launched attacks on Troy, where Paris resided with Helen. Helen was then known as the face that launched a thousand ships, referenced to the Trojan War.
Is there a lesson to be learned here? Let's see.
1. Women will resort to bribery to get what they want.
2. Men will ultimately want to get a pretty women over power.
-Since they'll get a hot babe after being rich and powerful, why not take the short cut right?
3. I'm too bored so I wrote about the bloody Judgement of Paris.
hmm... I guess in the end, it was Zeus' fault for forgetting to invite the Goddess of Discord to the wedding of Achilles' parents, which she threw the apple in there to create a lot of ruckus.
Anyways, I just learnt that the "Apple of Discord" is a euphemism for the cause/core of an argument or quarrel. First it was the disagreement of the Goddesses, which Zues was clever enough to avoid, then caused (mythologically) the Trojan War and the destruction of Troy.
I guess we learn something new, or old everyday... =)
